NDIS EQuine Program: Introducing our Horses

Updated: Feb 5, 2023

SKYE

Skye has 4 years experience with Core EQ's clients, including NDIS clients. She loves her home and her stable! There she is every afternoon waiting to come in at 4pm.

Aged 12 Skye enjoys meeting people of all ages. She has a kind gentle manner on the ground. Due to a difficult breaking in experience Skye is not a suitable riding horse except for expert riders. However she loves her NDIS work (on the ground work) as it gives her structure and companionship. Horses like to have a job to do. Since Sterling's untimely death she has been an even more important part of our small NDIS Team.

Despite being a big girl she is aware of her size and adjusts her behaviour to accommodate people from tall to short, young to old. She loves being groomed and will stand quietly to be loved and pampered. She is great friends with our neighbour's 2 sheep who wait at the gate for her. And she spends hours grooming Rad when she can.

RAD

Rad is a mischievous 13 year old gelding who loves practical jokes. He lacked confidence as a young horse and with patient handling and training has learned to trust people and enjoy their company. His favourite activity is hacking out on a gravel road with some horse and riding buddies. Although he is a trained dressage horse.

Sometimes we put the Western Saddle on him and our clients have a stroll around with him. He loves to cart people about.

Rad has a tendon injury and is being stabled for 3 months. A big challenge for him and for us. We wish him a speedy recovery to he can run freely again in the paddocks.
